• Resumen

  Se discuten las interpretaciones, las implicancias actuales, y los problemas planteados por lostres conceptos del encabezamiento de la correspondencia de Saygüeque y sus secretarios hacia 1880. El primer problema es la legitimidad y la procedencia del poder de su Gobernación. El segundo problema es el carácter indígena. El tercero es la territorialidad de la "Gobernación Indígena de las Manzanas" que completaba el rótulo. La definición "argentina" de Saygüeque, y la decisión de integrarla exclusivamente con caciques orientales, excedieron el oportunismo táctico y el interés por las raciones gubernamentales. Las vinculaciones de Argentina y Chile con diferentes redes de caciques contribuyeron al trazado de los límites definitivos entre ambos estados. La situación de borde de las prácticas de Saygüeque habilita reconocer proyectos alternativos -y estrados- de integración a la nación.

• Abstract

  We focus on possible interpretations and problems raised by the concepts present in the headline of official documents issued by Saygüeque and his officers until 1880. These documents have printed three clue words: "Gobernación Indígena de las Manzanas". The first problem we analyze is legitimacy and provenience of power of this Gobernación, The second issue is the indigenous feature of such a Gobernación. And, the third one is about territoriality. The Saygüeque política! decisión favoring Argentina, and the political structure of Las Manzanas (mainly supported by eastern caciques) exceeded any tactical opportunism or the mere interest in governmenta! rations. The relationships Argentina and Chile established with different cacique nets contributed to settle the limits of both states. Saygüeque practices, considered as "border practices", enable us to recognize historical alternative ways -mostly frustrated- of integrating nation.
